DIARY
- Sunday 6th January 2008
Siem
Reap
There is a T-shirt being
worn around here, it says
on the front Same, Same,
on the reverse it says
Different. The same
sunset, the same temple,
no matter how you view
it, just the method of
getting there is
different. Why pay a
fortune to be ferried
around in a four-wheel
drive when a pushbike
gets the same effect. :)
Today though, it has been
a ride in a tuk tuk 70kms
to the temple used in the
film Tomb Raiders,
unfortunately for me I
forgot to write down what
it was called before I
came to the internet
cafe!

Uploading
pictures is beyond my
capabilities at the
moment and believe me I
have taken plenty. With
such a happy friendly
people, always willing to
help it is a pleasure to
take photos. One 32 year
old girl at the cafe
yesterday told me if you
were not married by the
time you are 20, you are
on the shelf over here,
she just has plenty of
money, no husband!
The bikes here are nearly
all-automatic Honda's,
scooters in other words,
but that is no problem,
because visitors are not
allowed to hire bikes in
Siem Reap. That keeps the
local bike riders in
employment at least.
A three-hour tuk tuk ride
has cured me of wanting
to sit for hours though,
and tomorrow it's off
down the Tonle Sap lake
to Phnom Pen and the
killing fields. Not
really looking forward to
that experience, but the
recent history of
Cambodia is so wrapped up
with the Pol Pot regime
it is a must I think.
Another week in Cambodia
around the Mekong Delta
and then the adventure
really starts to heat up
when it's back into
Vietnam... and
motorcycling! |
