DIARY
- Saturday 1st December
2007
What do you think could
be the worst possible
imaginable scenario for
an Instructor?
What situation could
reduce a grown woman to a
gibbering wreck?
Just close your eyes for
a moment and ponder what
could cause such earth
shattering, mind blowing,
fear induced panic.
Have you thought? Well
I'll tell you.
It's Boys... 16 year old
boys... not one or two
but THREE and all booked
in for a CBT on the same
day.
How could the office do
this to me - what had I
done to deserve such a
fate?
I left home for work half
dreading the day ahead.
A challenge! I can hear
the non parents among you
saying - well have you
never heard the adage
'employ a teenager while
they know everything?'
would be my reply.
Experience has shown
16year olds to be totally
without fear, sense or
brains and nothing was
going to make me think
otherwise.
So now I offer an apology
to all 16 year old male
Homosapiens. I had no
right to tar you with the
same brush, for these
were wonderful.
Absolutely totally
without reservation,
little gems. Not just
one, not two, but all
three!
Two of them arrived with
their fathers. One
bearing a small birthday
cake and a knife (it was
his 16th birthday that
day) - no lethal weapon
this; it really was for
cutting the sponge.
The other boy arrived
alone but introduced
himself in clear concise
prose with a friendly
smile. My jaw dropped.
They were human! They
were all well dressed for
motorcycling with
thermals and lots of thin
layers, they had good
stout footwear, they
brought their sandwiches
and they had actually
been studying the Highway
Code!
Now I expect you all
think I am going over the
top with all this, but
truly I am not.
They listened, they took
on board, they engaged
their brains, they made
me review everything I
had ever thought about
16year olds.
To say they had never met
before, by the end of the
day they were exchanging
telephone numbers and
planning to meet when
they all got mobile on
their new scooters.
It was a day in a
million, the laughter was
genuine, the humour quick
fire, lots of good
natured ribbing about
women; mothers and
girlfriends got a lot of
stick, I had to defend
the sisterhood.
Now a comparison of
16year old girls on CBT's
would be interesting. But
it won't happen will it?
There is as much chance
of the Calder and Hebble
Navigation freezing over
as us getting a bunch of
girls wanting to ride
bikes.
Come on ladies - please
prove me wrong! Why don't
you want to ride bikes?
